Swedish Relaxation Massage:
Swedish Massage is one of the most commonly
used massage techniques. It is a great way to
introduce someone to massage therapy and I
can easily integrate it with other massage
modalities. By using oil or a water based cream
and broad gentle strokes, Swedish Massage
increases oxygen flow in the blood and releases
toxins from the muscles. It can shorten recovery time
from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic
acid, uric acid and other metabolic wastes. It gives
you the benefit of feeling more relaxed and centered
because it increases circulation without increasing heart load. It also
stimulates the skin and nervous system. Some other options I can add
to Swedish Massage are the use of arnica or red flower oil to stimulate
muscles and reduce soreness, along with aroma therapy using Essential
Oils like lavender, frankincense, or eucalyptus to further the healing
process. Swedish massage is a great gift to give yourself or anyone you
care for.
Deep Tissue Massage:
Deep Tissue Massage is an effective technique used to release chronic
muscle tension. I use slower strokes and more direct deep pressure.
This helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep Tissue Massage
focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. Deep Tissue Massage
can be used to address specific areas that need attention, or used as a
full body massage that feels good while really getting in there and
working out the soreness.
When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading
to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. Because many
toxins are released during a deep tissue massage, it is important to
drink plenty of water after a deep tissue session to help eliminate these
toxins from the body. Some other options I can add to Deep Tissue
Massage are the use of arnica or red flower oil to stimulate muscles and
reduce soreness, along with aroma therapy using Essential Oils like
lavender, frankincense, or eucalyptus to further the healing process.
Deep Tissue Massage is a great technique for people that want more
focused work.
Benefits:
1. Release of fiber and deeply-held patterns of tension.
2. Removal of toxins
3. Relaxing and soothing muscles
4. Both corrective and therapeutic
Trigger Point Release Therapy:
Trigger Point Therapy was developed in the early 60’s by Dr. Janet
Travell, President John F Kennedy’s personal physician during his
years of persistent back pain. It is also referred to as Neuromuscular
Therapy.
A trigger point is a hyper irritable tender spot on the muscle that refers
pain to other muscles. This is why someone with a trigger point in their
neck will experience referral pain in the head, causing a headache.
Active trigger points can keep the muscles tight, restricting blood flow
and compressing nerves. Often chronic pain that does not want to leave
is a result of a trigger point. By locating, pressing, and then holding a
trigger point, the muscle spasm can release and bring more blood flow
to the area. Trigger Point Therapy is very effective in addressing
specific issues in the neck, shoulders, upper and lower back, hips and
feet. I can integrate it with other massage modalities like Swedish and
Deep Tissue massage.
Some other options I can add to Trigger Point Therapy are the use of
arnica or red flower oil to stimulate muscles and reduce soreness, along
with aroma therapy using Essential Oils like lavender, frankincense, or
eucalyptus to further the healing process
CranioSacral Therapy:
(also called CST, cranial osteopathy) is a non intrusive method of
alternative medicine used by massage therapists, chiropractors and
osteopaths, who manually apply a subtle movement of the spinal and
cranial bones to bring the central nervous system into harmony. This
therapy involves assessing and addressing the movement of the
cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which can be restricted by trauma to the
body, such as through falls, accidents, and general nervous tension.
By gently working with the spine, the skull and its cranial sutures,
diaphragms, and fascia, the restrictions of nerve passages are eased
and the movement of CSF through the spinal cord can be optimized. I
have experienced this therapy to be particularly useful for mental stress,
neck and back pain, migraines, TMJ Syndrome, and for chronic nervous
conditions such as anxiety and fibromyalgia.
When the craniosacral and central nervous system blockages are
properly aligned, protein, electrolytes, amino acids and other essential
nutrients can be delivered through the Cerebrospinal fluid.
The session is preformed with the clients relaxing face up on the
massage table with clothes on as I gently work through the CranioSacral
system. Clients are amazed at how calm and balanced they feel after a
CranioSacral Therapy session.
Some other options I can add to CranioSacral Therapy are the use of
arnica or red flower oil to stimulate muscles and reduce soreness, along
with aroma therapy using Essential Oils like lavender, frankincense, or
eucalyptus to further the healing process
Benefits
1. A sense of well being
2. Reduction in stress
3. Quality of sleep improved
4. More energy, less pain
Qigong Energy Work:
Qigong is healing work that opens and restores blockages so energy
can flow more freely in the body. Acupuncture and Acupressure are
based on these same principals.
You can think of your body’s energy system like water flowing in a
river. When the water is flowing smoothly in the river, everything is
fine, everything is in balance. When something happens causing a
blockage in the river the problems start. Upstream the water
overflows the river’s banks and there is flooding, while downstream the
river dries up and there is drought. Remove the blockage and
everything returns to its natural balance. Our life force is like a river. The
better it flows the better we feel and function.
During a Qigong session the client would be ask to relax in a chair or
face up on a massage table. Without touching the client, I will first
detects energy blockages and then address the blockages, removing
them and blessing the client with more energy. The benefits of Qigong
are a feeling of more energy and clarity, pain relief and more balance as
the healing continues hours after the session is over.
Clothes On Massage:
For clients that prefer to keep their clothes on during a massage, this is
an effective technique. I can address a specific area like the neck and
back or work with any other areas that the client would like to address.
You would have the option of choosing the level of pressure that best
feels right for you and we would monitor the level of pressure and any
other concerns through out the session.
I have had training and many years of experience with clients working
through trauma and other personal issues. Clothes on massage has
proven to be a positive and healing experience. My goal is to listen
closely to what my client’s needs are and honor their wishes and
boundaries. Feeling safe and comfortable is a number one priority when
it comes to helping others heal.
Qi-ssage Acupressure:
Qi-ssage acupressure, like the name implies, combines the energy
principles of qigong with the art of massage. Qi-ssage acupressure
addresses twenty four of the main acupressure points in the body. It
focuses on balancing and enhancing the flow of energy in the body by
pressing these acupressure points in sequence.
In acupuncture needles are used to stimulate these energy points while
Qi-ssage uses hands on pressure to do the same thing. Qi-ssage can
be preformed by either sitting or lying on a massage table. I can also
integrate Qi-ssage into other bodywork techniques like Swedish, Deep
Tissue, CranioSacral and Qigong.
Reflexology:
Reflexology is a gentle form of therapeutic treatment applied to the feet
and sometimes to the hands. It was brought to America in the early
1900’s. There are reflex areas on the feet (and hands) corresponding
to all the parts of the body including major organs. Applying pressure
to specific areas on the feet will effect internal organs and body
systems and promote good health.
